Zanona Elizabeth Beaty Forbes was born December 29, 1917 in Milford, Texas to the late Fred and Effie Beaty. Zanona united with the St. James AME Church at an early age. She attended the Kelly Miller School in Milford, Texas. Zanona later met Andrew J. Forbes and united in holy matrimony March 8, 1941. They moved to Itasca, Texas and united with Bethel AME Church and were faithful members until failing health. Zanona sung in the choir, was an usher, president of the youth department and a stewardess of the church. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and sat on several points of the star. She and A. J. were community leaders and aided in the development of the NAACP branch in Itasca. Zanona and A. J. were the parents of four daughters: Frances Forbes Hengan of Dallas, TX, Vernell Forbes Wiltz, Andrea Forbes Mc Collum, and LaNet Forbes Dykes all of Houston, TX. Two sons -in -law: Curtis Hengan of Dallas, TX, Jimmie Dykes and special son, Robert Simmons of Houston, TX. She is survived by sister Effie Beaty Daniels of Denver, Co., Three brothers-in law Glenn Daniels, Sr. of Denver, Co., Sandy Hill of New Orleans, La., Lionel Stephens of Baton Rouge, La., and Simon Joe Forbes, Sr., Ft. Worth, Tx. Two Sisters-in-law, Verna M. Livingston of Waco, Tx. and Claudene Forbes of Ft. Worth, Tx. Grandchildren Lurnell Abraham (Bryan), Danielle Wiltz (Trent Martin), Shawn Caselberry (La-Sean), Sirell Mc Collum, Patrick Wiltz, Dion Dykes, Tamella Mc Collum, 27 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special to her heart children. Zanona is preceded in death by her husband Andrew J. Forbes, brothers Theadus, Carl, and Fred Beaty, Jr., sisters Frances, Bobbye, Alyce, and Emma, and sons- in- law Thomas Mc Collum and Richard Wiltz.
