Harry Donnell Reed was born May 30, 1949 to Dorothy Reed. He graduated from Carver High School and pursued higher education in California and Waco. Reed served and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He talked proudly of enlisting in the Navy in order to provide his mother with financial assistance for his brothers and sisters back home. Upon returning to Waco in 1981, Harry received Christ and joined Carter's Temple Church of God in Christ. He met and married Lorye Carter in 1982, spending the next 37 years, 8 months and 5 days. In this union one son Donnell, was born in 1983. Harry worked until his retirement at McLennan Community College as an Administrative Assistant in Continuing Education and Workforce Education. He was loved by his supervisors and co-workers. Harry was ordained a Deacon by his Pastor, the late Superintendent Jesse L. Carter and served until Supt. Carter's passing. He then worked in the Business Office of the church under the current leadership of Supt. Jesse L. Carter, II. He enjoyed a beautiful working relationship with the Business Office Manager, Lady Joyce Carter. Harry also served as Sunday School teacher for the Men's Class and graphic designer for various orders of worship. Additionally, he installed the first sound system in the original Carter's Temple sanctuary. Harry was known for being gifted with his hands,although, he was often teased for either "fixing it or tearing it up." He enjoyed being around the church members, young and old, and attended service for his final time on March 1, 2020 and departed this life March 5, 2020.
