On May 13th, 2021 an Angel was called home, Suzette Smith. Suzette Smith was born on May 8th, 1949 to Ned and Hazel Pruitt who preceded her in death. Suzette is now reunited with them as well as her twin sister, Annette Pruitt.
During life, Suzette went on to accomplish great things. She attended Oak Lawn and Turner High School in Waxahachie, where she graduated. She then attended Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1971. After graduation in 1971, she was hired as the First African-American School Teacher for the Red Oak Independent School District and started on August 16, 1971. She taught the children of Red Oak ISD until June 3rd, 2003. She retired from Red Oak after 32 years of dedication to the students, parents, families, and faculty of the city of Red Oak. During her career, she received several awards, one of which was Teacher of the Year in 1982.
Mrs. Suzette Smith is survived by the Love of Her Life, Mr. Michael D. Smith. That union was blessed on February 9th, 1973, which lasted for 48 years. She had one son, Christopher D. Smith and daughter-in-law, Nikki Berry Smith. She had a grandchild in heart, Tayla Thompson. Mrs. Smith leaves a special niece and daughter, Raven Pruitt, along with children, Eiliyah and Sean Hopkins Jr. and Ravon Carson. She has two surviving sisters, Rosa Nell Hannah (John) of Dallas, Texas and Vanessa Elder of Lancaster, Texas and two brothers Billy Pruitt (Rosilyn) of Duncanville, Texas. Suzette leaves a host of aunt, uncle, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
