Samuel O. Herndon Sr. was born February 11, 1943 to the parentage of Will L. Herndon (Pearl) and Louise A. Herndon in Troup, TX (Cherokee County) who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage with Linda J. Herndon on November 27, 2002.
He attended grammar school at Kemp Elementary in Kemp, Texas and after completing, continued his high school career first at Pyle High School in Kaufman, Texas then St. Paul Industrial School in Caney City, Texas. Right after completing his education he became a truck driver. He was drafted into the United States Army on March 13, 1968, he completed a tour of duty in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
Samuel O. Herndon confessed Christ and united with the Second Chapel Baptist Church in Garland Texas under the leadership of the late Dr. James W. Culp Sr., Pastor and later moved his membership to El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Waxahachie, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Justin Walker. He loved the Lord and was a very faithful member. Here he served as Sunday School teacher and was faithful to the Iron Man Ministry until the Almighty God called him to Eternal Rest.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert L. Herndon, Luther Herndon and Will L. Herndon II, two sisters, Margaret Sayles and Joyce M. Herndon, one son Christon R. Herndon, one granddaughter, Alexis Herndon.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Wife, Linda J. Herndon of Waxahachie Texas, Children, Samuel O Herndon Jr, Shannon J. Pros (Benny), Amy A. Love-Payne (Trevone), Kevin Herndon (JaMika), Amber E. Herndon, Courtney R. Herndon, Chekiva Douglas (Victor), Tramone Mitchell (Candance), Brittney Jones, 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren
