Master Sergeant Dr. Peter J. (PJ) Grayson was born to the proud parentage of Isaac and Mary Shubrick Grayson on December 22, 1941, in Georgetown, South Carolina. Being one of 7 children born to his parents, Dr. Grayson was raised in a loving and God-fearing home in which Jesus Christ was the center, and their entire family were dedicated members of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, in their beloved hometown of Georgetown, SC.
It was extremely apparent that God had gifted Dr. Grayson with a brilliant mind which allowed him to excel in all his academic pursuit. His grade school education was completed in the Georgetown Public Schools, and he was in the Top Ten of his graduating class at Howard High School. Immediately after earning his High School Diploma with Honors, Dr. Grayson moved to New York City and then entered the United States Airforce. At a time when African American Men were fighting for Civil Rights in America, Dr. Grayson bravely fought for the freedom of the people of Southeast Asia in the Vietnam War. His Military Service Records are highly marked with various accommodations for valor and honor. Dr. Grayson's service to our county is well remembered and sincerely appreciated by a grateful nation. During his distinguished military service, Dr. Grayson met and fell deeply in love with the beautiful Daisy Mae Boulden, who would become his wife and soulmate. The happy couple was united in holy matrimony in 1969 and they remained in love and marriage until her passing in 2020. Having served his country first, Dr. Grayson then turned and began building the life he had dreamed of living. Understanding that education was the foundation to achieve success in life, Dr. Grayson embarked upon the pursuit of higher education. He enrolled in The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he received his Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business in Accounting. His second Master Level Degree, a Master of Criminal Justice, was conferred upon by The American Technological University. Dr. Grayson's educational pursuits culminated with him earning a Doctoral Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Springfield. His vast knowledge and educational training opened many doors in the governmental sector for employment. Over the course of his life, Dr. Grayson held positions at The United States Department of Defense, The Internal Revenue Service, The United States Post Office at which he worked for 30 years, Texas Department of Corrections, and various other professional corporations. As committed followers of Jesus Christ, Dr. Grayson and Daisy strived to make their home a place where love and acceptance of all people were felt. They opened their hearts to their nieces and nephew Melissa, Michelle, and Mathew and loved them as their own natural born children, and loved their children as would they own blood grandchildren. The rich heritage of the Christian Faith and community service remained mainstays in Dr. Grayson's Life. In addition to being a Shriner and Masonic Lodge Member, Dr. Grayson was longstanding member of Saint James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Denton, TX where both he and his wife united in membership in 1984. Dr. Grayson was appointed Steward in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and during his tenure as Steward, he served as Steward Board Protem for many years. As a devote churchman, his active participation in the Church School and the Henry Jones Male Chorus gave much joy and uplifted the entire church body. Dr. Grayson was a unique and gifted child of God with many friends and devoted family who all will greatly miss his active involvement in their lives. PJ, as most people know him by, never met stranger and he deeply loved people. Great comfort, however, is felt in knowing that we all we see and rejoice with him again in the live to come for those who like, PJ, have placed their hearts and souls' care in the hands of our Lord and Savior, The Resurrected One, Jesus Christ.
