Maudie Ree (Hamilton) Ellis was born August 26, 1936, to the late William and Eliza Jackson Hamilton of Montalba, Texas in Anderson County. She was the fourth child of five. She completed her public education at A.M. Storey High School in Palestine, Texas in 1955.
After graduation, she met and married James Alford (Mickey) Ellis and gave birth to six beautiful children. As James worked nights for Yellow Frieght, Maudie was a stay at home mother.
Maudie began her Christian walk at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Montalba, Texas. She joined College Park Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the pastorage of the late Rev. Booker T. Watson Sr. She was very active with the youth department, Sunday school teacher, president of Sr. Mission and secretary of the Greater Rising Star District Association. Maudie was also very active in the Wilmer Hutchins High School Band Booster Club for 25 years, where she fundraised for band trips and worked concession stands.
Her hobbies were sewing, driving neighborhood kids around in the brown station wagon, cooking and was the neighborhood beautician for many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eliza Hamilton; all four sisters - Ommie (Puddin) Baker, Erma Hickman, Jackie Mae Govan and Annie Marie (Bonnie) Langford; son, Roderick Ellis and former spouse, James Alford Ellis.
She leaves behind to cherish her love, laughter and memories: three sons, James (Bo) Ellis, Michael (Blind) Ellis and Elanders Ellis; two daughters, Nebra Moix and Maria Singleton; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
