Mary Ann Carter was born on August 1, 1940. She was born to the union of Lois Massey and Clency Gardner in Waxahachie, Texas. Mary Ann Carter was a member of Church of the Living God in Dallas, Texas. Mary Ann Carter married Henry Lee Carter and shortly afterwards she gave birth to 11 children. Mary and her husband were entrepreneurs that provided for their family. She enjoyed road trips, fishing, cooking, sewing, family gatherings, and taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois Massey and Clency Gardner; her husband, Henry Lee Carter, Sr.; her sisters, Johnnie Lee Mitchell, Janice Noel, and Nettie Massey; her children, Lois Ann Henley, Carolyn Jo Dixon-Ford, Henry Lee Carter, Jr., Cherry Ruth Smith, Ruby Jewel Carter, Bobby Ray Carter, Christine Elaine Carter-Smith, and Terry Lee Carter; her sons-in-law, Tommy Lee Smith, Kenneth Ray Henley, and Billy Strawder; her grandchildren, Richard Mark Carter, I(Chelsea), Sonya Denise Weston (Ivery), Donald Ray Dixon, Jr., LaDerrick Antwone Smith; and Omekia Carter Johnson; her best friend, Ethel May. Mary Ann Carter's legacy lives on through her sister, Dorothy Smith; her brothers, Johnny Roy Massey and Oscar Nunn, Jr.; her children, Peggy Joyce Azobor, Cynthia Gail Ware, Tony Leon Carter, Shafton Aria Carter, Candis Ann Taylor, and Chance DeMarcus Carter; her sons-in-law, Emmanuel Azobor Sr Calvin Ware, Anthron Evans, and Christopher Taylor; her grandchildren, Denisha Johnson (Terry), Juanita Dixon-Humphrey, Tyrone Lee Carter, Kessie Marie Davis (Nathaniel), TeresaLynette Rice-Johnson (Lennis); Peggy Joyce Carter-Malone (Justin); Rocky Carter, Chandra Perkins Aderibigbe (Oluwaseun); Toni Lanette Thomas-Perkins, Terion DeJuan Carter, Henry Lee Carter III, Jimmy Smith, III, Henray Smith, Ervin Ellsworth (Tanisha), Antronette Perry (Christopher), Mary Ann Evans-Davis (Andrew), Antonio Coleman Carter, Kendrick Johnson, Emmanuel Azobor, Jr., and Precious Azobor.
