L.C. Dears was a native of Johnson County. He grew up and resided in Mansfield, Texas. He
attended Fort Worth District Schools and eventually continued his education at Tarrant County JuniorCollege.
L.C. was a Vietnam Veteran. He served 2 years in the Army and later enlisted in the Navy, wherehe served for 3 years. He was awarded multiple awards during his service and obtained HonorableDischarges from both branches of the military.
L.C. was employed with the VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas, from which he retired.
At an early age L.C. attended church with his mother and siblings. Later in life, after his marriage tothe late Geneva Price, he joined New Galilee Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas, under the leadershipof the late Rev. C. R. McDuffy, his brother in-law. He later joined True Gospel Baptist Church inDallas, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor Calvin Washington, where he served as an usher until hisillness.
L.C. often shared the word of God to whoever would listen. He was a faithful and loving servant ofGod, as well as to all mankind.
Preceding him in death are the following: parents, Horace W.B. Dears, Sr., and Annie MayRobinson Dears; sisters, Myrtle Mae Hall, Beatrice Camilla Covington and Annie May Jarmon; andbrothers, Horace Dears, Jr., George Earl Dears, Willie Nathaniel Dears, Sr., Charles Dears, and EdgarLee Dears.
L.C. leaves in God's care: daughters, Darnisha Slaughter Atkins (Samuel) of Cedar Hill, Texas, andShannon Dears (Alvin) of Cedar Hill, Texas; his son, Richard Johnson (Andrea) of Fort Worth, Texas;loving sister, Rosa Lee Fairley of Mansfield, Texas; grandchildren, Indya Slaughter, Londyn Slaughter,Eden Gilbert, and Genesis Gilbert; and great-granddaughter, London Sneed. L.C. also leaves a host ofnieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
