MR. JOHN HENRY NELSON
October 28, 1924 ~ September 16, 2017
Mr. John Henry Nelson was born to Mr. Willie and Mrs. Fourthia Cooper Nelson in Cameron, Milam County, Texas. He was their only child born to this union, all of whom have preceded him in death.
Mr. Nelson confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.
His education after high school includes: 1942-1947 a B.A. degree in English at Huston-Tillotson College; and 1955 Masters in Education degree from Denver University.
At Tillotson College, he was initiated in 1943 by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Doing this time at Tilloston, he met and married Nola Bernice Powell on December 27, 1946 in Austin, Texas. To this union, one child was born, Minthia Jean Nelson.
His work journey started 1947-1950 (teacher/principal) at Milano Colored High School; 1950 principal in Dallas, Lincoln High School/James Madison High School/Booker T. Washington High School (summer); Roosevelt High School (1963); J.N. Ervin Middle School (1965-1967); and spent 20 years at Mountain View Community College, where he was one of the opening staff members. He taught English, D.E., Business Management, Tech Operations Dean and Vice President of Student Development.
His hobbies and interests were golf, music from the 1940's and 1950's, track and field, basketball and traveling.
He is survived by his daughter, Minthia Nelson (Dallas) and a host of cousins and friends.
