Obituary

Evelyn was born on July 17, 1947 to the parentage of the late Ethel and James Willie (Will) Ford, Sr. in Bryan, Texas. At an early age she joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church and was active in Sunday School, A.C.E. League and Junior Choir. She attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, R. C. Neal Junior High and graduated from E. A. Kemp High. While attending high school, she sang in the Acappella Choir, a majorette and a member of the New Homemakers of America. She graduated from Paul Quinn College in 1968 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Early in her 20's she married Oscar Amos. No children were born in this marriage. After graduating from college, she worked at U. S. Savings Life Insurance Company, Community Action Agency and West Texas Legal Services. Evelyn was very active in the community. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., National Council of Negro Women, NAACP, American Fraternal Benefit Society, Minority Leaders and Citizens Council, Texas Association of Community Action Agencies, Texas Housing Federation, Mary Kay Cosmetics, voter election worker, and a Notary. Evelyn enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, traveling and karate. She was an active member of Mount Gilead Baptist in Fort Worth, TX (the late Rev. Cedric D. Britt, Pastor) until she moved to Duncanville because of her need for assisted living. She was preceded in death by: her mother and father, Ethel and James Willie Ford, Sr.; her brother, Joseph Ford; her sister, Billie Jean Mondine and grandparents, Katie and George Eddington. She leaves to celebrate her life: a special friend of more than 30 years, Charles W. Diggs of Fort Worth, TX; three sisters, Deborah L. Ford, San Marcos, TX, Katie Johnson (TX; one aunt, Helen E. Drayton, Bryan, TX; one uncle, Dennis Garner, Virginia, and a host of other relatives and friends.
