Obituary

Elma Pomare Steele was the eighth of nine children born to the marriage of Alister Pomare and Clerinda Steele de Pomare. She was born and raised in San Andres, Island, Colombia. When she was 14 years old her mother passed, so she was raised by her father and older siblings. She was educated in the public-school system and she ran her own real estate lease business (house and property renting) for many years until she retired. Ms. Elma was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, mentor, etc. She was a person that serves with love to her family, neighbor, church, and even strangers. She was a faithful child of God who served her church and community. She was introduced to the advent message by four faithful sisters Mrs. Lilia Escalona de Pomare, Mrs. Ana Mclaughlin de Pomare, Mrs. Ofelia Bent de Manuel, and Ms. Maria Duran. These church ladies invited Ms. Elma, her children, and other neighbors to attend a brand sabbath school at Mrs. Chieva Archbold de McGowan's yard. Later, these ladies invited them to attend a Revival held by Pr. Brazoban at the San Luis Coliseum. Ms. Elma accepted the Adventist faith, but not only her, she was baptized along with her two older sons Paul and Alex (Chulito), and with her cousin Mr. Laureano Pomare (Betha Ano), and Ms. Rosabella Hooker, who made her dance place "Tombola'' to go from a dancing hall to a house of prayer, that place is currently the Fisher Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church. AMEN! Ms. Elma loved to cook, and she was known as a prayer warrior, praying with season and out of season for her family and friends. Her Family was blessed through her, and they thank God for the precious years He gave her to them. Ms. Elma currently lived between San Andres, her hometown, and Dallas, TX with her youngest twin daughters Eneida (Blacky) and Zenaida (Brownie). Ms. Elma was preceded in death by her son Antonio Pomare and her Grandson Jonathan Borden, her parents, three sisters: Claris Hudgson de Pomare, Celes Pomare Steele, Clarita Pomare Steele, and three brothers: Vicksy Pomare Steele, Calbert Pomare Steele, and Chester Pomare Steele. Left to cherish her memories are her four sons: Eugenio, Alex, Paul (Sandra), and Helisto (Liliana), four daughters: Rosa, Aurora, Zenaida, and Eneida (Joseph). Nine grandchildren: Bennett, Paola, Nadia, Tinashe, Nicole, Joseph, Elijah, Alan, and Elma "Elmita". Three great grandchildren: Agien, Tishany, and Bradleyan. Two sisters: Rosa Pomare de Yates and Virginia Pomare-Hites, and a host of nephews, grandnephews, and other relatives and friends.
