The Life and Legacy of Reverend Daryl Glenn Walton“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”— 2 Timothy 4:7On October 20, 1951, God blessed the union of Elder Henderson Walton and Eleanor Inez (Glenn) Walton with the birth of their beloved son, Daryl Glenn Walton, in Dallas, Texas. From the very beginning, Daryl’s life reflected purpose, compassion, and a steadfast devotion to God.Daryl received his formal education through the Dallas Independent School District and proudly graduated from Lake Highlands High School, home of the Wildcats. Affectionately known by friends and classmates as “Chief,” he was admired for his warm personality, athletic ability, and love for sports. Whether on the field or among friends, Daryl possessed a quiet confidence and an infectious spirit that drew people to him.At an early age, Daryl accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and service. His father, Elder Henderson Walton, was a profound spiritual influence whose unwavering example inspired Daryl’s calling into ministry. Following in his father’s footsteps, Daryl faithfully served alongside him and, after conducting a revival at Galilee Church of God in Christ, accepted his call to ministry under the leadership of the late Superintendent R. Hunter.As his faith matured, Reverend Walton became a powerful vessel for the Lord. Deeply rooted in the doctrine of the Church and firmly believing in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, he preached with conviction, led countless revivals, and ministered under the anointing of God. Those privileged to worship alongside him often witnessed his gift of prophecy as he spoke according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. His ministry was marked by humility, compassion, and an unwavering desire to see lives transformed through Christ.In 1972, while living in Dallas, Texas, Daryl met the love of his life, Miss Martha Tatum. Their friendship blossomed into love, and they were united in holy matrimony. From this blessed union came two cherished daughters, Germaine LaShun Walton and Tia Renee Walton, who became the pride and joy of his life.A diligent and dependable provider, Daryl dedicated himself to every opportunity God placed before him. Throughout his career, he was employed by companies including Hostess, Dixie, and Swift Trucking Company, always demonstrating an exceptional work ethic and integrity.Later in life, Daryl relocated to Inglewood, California, where he became a faithful member of Ward A.M.E. Church. There, he served joyfully in numerous ministries, including as a Sunday School teacher, youth worker, and member of the Convalescent Ministry, faithfully bringing Holy Communion to members unable to attend worship services. His life exemplified servant leadership, always placing the needs of others before his own.Upon returning to Dallas, Texas, Reverend Walton united with Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he continued serving faithfully in many capacities. Among his greatest passions was the Ministry of Music. Gifted as both a vocalist and musician, he joyfully led congregational singing and skillfully played the guitar and drums. His music became an extension of his ministry, uplifting hearts and glorifying God throughout his lifetime.On Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, Reverend Daryl Glenn Walton peacefully transitioned from labor to eternal rest in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His life was a testimony of unwavering faith, humble service, unconditional love, and steadfast devotion to God. Though his earthly journey has ended, the seeds he planted through his ministry, music, kindness, and love will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elder Henderson Walton and Eleanor Punch; his brother, Larry Walton; his sister, Phyllis Punch; and his beloved son, Daryl G. Walton, Jr.Reverend Walton leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted daughters, Germaine LaShun Walton and Tia Renee Walton, both of Dallas, Texas; his brothers, Kirk Walton of Yonkers, New York, and Phillip Punch of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister, Cheryl Walton of Dallas, Texas; his beloved aunt, Phyllis Stevenson of DeSoto, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, dear friends, and countless lives forever touched by his faith, wisdom, music, and love.“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”Matthew 25:23
