Bennie Mae Hutchinson was born September 26, 1931 to the parentage of John and Clara Elliott in Brenham, TX. The third child of ten children she was reared in Brenham, TX and attended Needville Elementary School. She completed her high school years at I.M. Terrell, Fort Worth, TX and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, TX. She continued her education receiving a Associate's Degree at El Centro Junior College. In the crown of her youth she met and married Herschiel Hutchinson on June 14, 1953 and to this union seven children were born. Bennie accepted Christ at an early age and united with Harris Spring AME Church in Brenham, Texas and continued to grow in faith. In her walk with God, she developed a spiritual disposition that caused her to seek him in every situation in life. Passionate about people, she was always ready to help her neighbors and care for her family. Bennie served as Director of the Dallas Community Action Center were she educated and nurtured children in the community. Later she worked at Texas A&M System as a Nutritionist. She was also an active member of Smith Chapel AME church, where she served faithfully as a member of the Lay Organization, Othel Hight Women's Missionary Society, Daughters of Smith, Seniors Ministry and Usher Board for over 45 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter at birth Carol Lynn Hutchinson and two brothers, John T. and Theodore Elliott. She was a devoted wife to her late husband and a loving mother to her children, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter Virginia Hutchinson, five sons Herschiel Hutchinson (Sandra), James T. Hutchinson, Harold Hutchinson (Vicki), Benny Hutchinson (Christine), John Hutchinson, Sr. (Amy); 14 grandchildren Amy Dawn, Naturee, Harold II (Jonetta), Quteena, Sherry, Kierria, Kizzie, Jashelle, Isaiah, Alexus, Anthony, D'ante, DaQualyn, John Jr. and 8 great grand children. She also leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Verie Elliott Brown, Susie V. Elliott, Betty M. Elliott Jones, four brothers, Elder L.C. Elliott (Cynthia), James W. Elliott (Vern) Andrew Elliott, Maurice Elliott (Tracy), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sister-in-laws and friends.
