ARCHIE CHARLES COHEN, JR. was born in Dallas Texas, the eldest son to the parentage of the late Archie C. Cohen, Sr. and Ethel Cole Cohen. His grandparents, Elizah and Edna Cole, were charter members of Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church. Along with his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Amanda J. Cohen and his daughter, Charmayne Y. Freeman. Brother Cohen was educated in the Dallas Public School Systemattending N.W. Harlee Elementary, Lincoln High School and graduated from St. Peters Academy and Tyler Barber College. He proudly served his country as a member of the armed services in the U.S. Army. During his professional career, he served his community as a barber, as a postal worker at the U.S. Postal Service and an employee of the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department where he retired. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1693. As a faithful, lifelong member of Smith Chapel, he was an active member of the Carl Henry Male Chorus, the Seniors Group, the Sons of Allen and Class Number Eight. Every second Sunday morning, Bro. Cohen served as the chief cook for the Sons of Allen breakfast that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Also, he was famous for cooking the best hot water cornbread in the City of Dallasjust ask the Seniors! Bro. A.C. Cohen will truly be missed. Brother A.C. lived a life of excellence and integrity. He laughed and let the world know that he enjoyed the life God had given him. On May 9, 2009, the angels of silence received his life at the V.A. Medical Hospital in Dallas. Those left to cherish his memories are: a devoted son, Archie C. Cohen, III (Christy); sister, Edna L. Cohen Smith; aunt, Othel Hight; 5 grandchildren, DeRoyce L.L. Charles Freeman, Darrius J. Cohen, Archie C. Cohen, IV, Chad Avery and Chasidy Coumpy; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
