Obituary

Gently and tranquil, Deacon Alvin Isiah Washington Jr., was welcomed into his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Alvin Washington Jr. was born on November 19, 1935 to the late Isiah Washington and Eliza Jackson in Brazos County, Texas. He was the eldest of three siblings: Dorsey, Connie (deceased) and Henry. Growing up in Mart, Texas, Alvin was educated in the Mart Independent schools and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age. Alvin I. Washington entered the United States Army where he served his country receiving an Honorable Discharge on June 19, 1956. Alvin Isiah met and courted Almer Ruth Jackson in Dallas, TX. The two were united in holy matrimony on December 20, 1988. Deacon Alvin Washington was a dedicated and faithful member of the College Park Baptist Church for 31 years under the leadership of the late Rev. Booker T. Watson Sr., the late Rev. Booker T. Watson Jr. and the current Pastor Carver Adams. Deacon Washington was an ordained deacon for over 25 years and truly understood his duties and responsibilities. Deacon Washington was a faithful Sunday School Teacher, involved in the BTU, a devotion leader, a faithful and committed tither, served in Brotherhood, sang in the male chorus, and on the Pastors Aide committee. Deacon Washington enjoyed doing odd jobs and repairs around the church. He was faithful and dedicated with his responsibilities and mostly loved giving to others until his health slowly declined. He loved his church! He was stern in his teaching but fair to mankind. His word was his bond. He was overly excited about the word and giving God praise! His favorite song was, "I Woke Up This Morning With My Mind, Stayed On Jesus". His favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5,6 "Trust in the Lord". He had a hunger and desire for the word of God. (He read the bible, studied the bible and learned the bible, so when the solemn truth was told, you would surely know). Affectionately known as Al, he was an extremely dedicated employee occupying employment from King's Tailor to Dallas ISD. He worked as a "motor man" with Lawrence Auto, McDonalds Corporation and the United States Post Office. Alvin fathered eight biological children. As parents, Alvin and Almer unconditionally embraced a host of children, young and old alike, fostering all of them with love, DISCIPLINE and continued support. Deacon Alvin Washington leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Almer Ruth Washington, his brothers, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, the College Park Baptist Church family and a host of friends.
